Why I Share Psychological Knowledge Beyond Therapy
Making Mental Health Support Accessible to All
I believe psychological knowledge should not belong only to psychologists. While professional support can be transformative, many of the principles that help people manage anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, and life's challenges can also be learned and applied in everyday life.
This belief is reflected in the words of psychologist George Miller, former President of the American Psychological Association:
"Psychological facts should be passed out freely to all who need and can use them... The people at large will have to be their own psychologists, and make their own applications of the principles that we establish."
— George A. Miller, Giving Psychology Away (1969)
For this reason, I am committed to sharing practical psychological knowledge with the wider community in Hong Kong. Through articles, educational resources, and public education initiatives, my goal is to help people develop the understanding and skills they need to support their own mental wellbeing and make informed decisions about their lives.
Psychology should not be confined to consulting rooms, academic journals, or professional training programmes. While professional support has an important role, many evidence-based psychological principles can also be learned and applied by individuals in their everyday lives.
Ultimately, psychology is not about creating dependence on an expert. It is about helping people gain the knowledge, confidence, and tools to better understand themselves, care for their wellbeing, and navigate life's challenges with greater resilience and wisdom.
Introducing Person Centre
Through this platform, you'll find courses and resources to help you reflect, rest, and creatively craft your own life. Our logo is a tribute to a famous psychology illusion and symbolizes the victory that can be attained through dialogue and engagement with others. Like many psychological illusions, it hinges on a shift in perception. If you're willing to take the first step, we'll guide you through the rest, and you'll experience the freedom of having a different perspective on situations you encounter and the decisions you make. At Person Centre, we consider everyone, our team, our friends, and all of you, part of our ‘Person’.
